4WD

As the highest alpine resort in Victoria, Hotham is blessed to have a challenging range of 4WD tracks at the doorstep. Tracks wind their way through rolling high plains, river crossings and razorbacks. You haven’t been 4WDing until you have experienced Hotham. Road Cycling

The highest bitumen road in Australia is a great place for incredibly scenic road cycling sessions in summer, particularly for those competitive riders wishing to engage in altitude training. The climb (or descent) from Harrietville covers 38km of winding road and forms part of the annual Hotham Challenge Ride Weekend. A simple ride between Dinner Plain and Hotham is a great way to escape the everyday amongst the high country snowgums. Why not challenge your group to a journey from Omeo to Harrietville, overnighting at Shepparton Alpine Club?

Mountain Biking

Explore ‘the back tracks’ at Hotham and Dinner Plain with undulating ridgeline rides, amazing views and coasting downhill runs through snowgum forests, creek crossings, jumps and bush tracks. Mountain biking is not permitted on the downhill ski runs at Hotham, however there are numerous fire trails and 4WD tracks that wind through the bush, so there’s plenty of places to explore on your bike.

Scenic Touring and Motorcycling

Whether you are on four wheels or two, Dinner Plain and Hotham offer a great base to explore the very best of the Great Alpine Road with 308km of touring routes and stunning scenery. Hotham is the highest vantage point along the famous Great Alpine Road, one of the most iconic and romantic scenic drives in Victoria. Maps are available at local visitor information centres and at Hotham and Dinner Plain.

Panoramic Vistas and Picnic Spots

Take advantage of our stunning vantage points, from the top of Hotham to the bottom where the rivers flow with the spring snow melt. There are many locations to enjoy uninterrupted 360 degree views to take in a setting sun, all within easy walking distance from your lodge. Find your own lush grassy paradise by taking one of our walking trails sheltered by shady snowgums.

Pack a picnic lunch and walk along the Cobungra Ditch Walk where you can access the famous Silver Brumby Hut which was built in 1992 as a temporary film prop for the Australian film “The Silver Brumby”, based on the famous novel by Elyne Mitchell.

Wonderful Wildlife

Hotham hosts a number of areas of environmental significance for flora and fauna within the resort. Pick up a wildflower guide book at the Resort Management Board Office (or Transit Lounge on weekends) and spot different species along the way. Hotham is home to a number of threatened species such as the Mountain Pygmy-Possum, Alpine She-Oak Skink and Alpine Bog Skink plus endangered flora such as the Mountain Daisy, Dwarf Sedge and Rock Tussock-Grass.

Horse Riding

Mount up for a day’s horse riding adventure. During the green season, horse riding will be available from Dinner Plain and through the Victorian High Country. Tennis
